Touch typing is the ability to type using all ten fingers without looking at the keyboard. Instead of the "hunt-and-peck" method where you search for each key visually, touch typing relies on muscle memory — your fingers automatically know where each key is based on their position relative to the home row.
According to research by Microsoft and the University of Aalto, proficient touch typists achieve speeds of 40 to 80 WPM compared to 27 to 37 WPM for hunt-and-peck typists. More importantly, touch typists make fewer errors because they can keep their eyes on the screen and catch mistakes in real time.
Our 8-lesson course follows the same proven pedagogy used by TypingClub, Typing.com, and professional typing certification programs. The structure is:
Based on data from typing education platforms, here is a realistic timeline for most learners:
| Stage | Duration | Expected Speed | Focus |
|---|---|---|---|
| Week 1 | 15 min/day | 10 to 15 WPM | Home row accuracy |
| Week 2 to 3 | 15 min/day | 15 to 25 WPM | All keyboard rows |
| Week 4 to 6 | 20 min/day | 25 to 35 WPM | Speed building |
| Week 7 to 12 | 20 min/day | 35 to 45 WPM | SSC exam readiness |
Most SSC CGL candidates need 4 to 6 weeks of daily practice to reach the qualifying speed of 35 WPM. SSC CHSL candidates targeting 30 WPM can achieve this in 3 to 4 weeks.
Unlike generic typing courses, our lessons are specifically designed with SSC exam requirements in mind:
